Wow. I don't even know where to start.

Excellent post, and you made a lot of great observations (The link to Gerritsen's Blog in particular was a bit of a shocker to me).

Looking forward to reading more insightful posts from you, and, eventually, reading your fiction.

Oh, and Eli: I think you get the credit for finding me first, actually. You commented on some post of mine, which led me back to your blog.

I like the point you made about how numbers don't really tell us anything about the popularity of our blooks. Just because I've got 2000 visitors doesn't tell me anything ... rather the reviews of my writing is what matters more.

I'm hoping to get more reviewers and readers contribute (I've yet to review anything, since I've yet to finish anything - the most I've read is 80% of a blook), and imagine my pleasure when I found Bradley of An Obtrusive Reader (or rather he found me, ehheh).

Keep the ideas coming!

You know, Eli, what frightens me is that the more of your blog that I read, the more I'm starting to suspect that we're the same person. I could save myself a ton of time and thinking if I just read your blog and used mine to post nude pictures of Nicole Kidman.

(This is in specific reference to your post <a href="http://www.novelr.com/2007/05/10/arguments-on-lulu-sigh" rel="nofollow">here</a>, right down to talking about the Long Tail.)

But more to the point, I feel like I'm talking out of both sides of my mouth sometimes. I see the logic in writing short and sharp, chunking, using visuals, etc., but I also know that isn't the sort of fiction model I want to read (and definitely not the sort that I want to write). Even worse, the idea of adding multimedia interactivity. Clicking buttons around and watching three minute videos to "complete" the storytelling process would have the effect of yanking me out of the narrative flow as a reader. (This is also one of the reasons that I both admire the storytelling-via-footnotes gimmick that Nabokov employed in _Pale Fire_ and hate it because I feel like I'm constantly splitting my focus and making the task of immersion more arduous than enjoyable.)

It could just be a creative or conceptual limitation on my part. Maybe 36 makes me too ancient of a fogey on the internets to grok the new media sensibility.

But regardless of how many pixels I spill talking about and analyzing ways that blogging might change long form fiction, my actions indicate that I'm just fine with the nature of narrative *not* changing at all. In fact, that's what I'm really hoping for.

I wrote that post fairly early on in Novelr's life, but lately I've found evidence to the contrary.
